God still speaks.  Are you listening?

God did not retire when the Bible was completed.  As the Holy Spirit, He remains active in believers' lives.  What He tells us never replaces Scripture, but the Holy Spirit does interpret and apply what is written.  Learning to listen to Him is the topic of two study series.  The leaflets can be tucked into a Bible for study away from home.  They can be used in a study or discussion group.  It is helpful to look up at least some of the many Scripture references in your favorite translation.

Listening for God
By Martin and CeCe Jackson

Set of seven leaflets, average time one hour per leaflet, but study at your own pace.   The theme is that God often speaks to His children today.  Since we are often deafened to His voice or unable to tell it from other voices, He often confirms what He is saying through others.  What He says to us is always consistent with His character as revealed in the Bible.

Modern Prophecy
By Martin and CeCe Jackson

Set of seven leaflets, average time one hour per leaflet, but study at your own pace.  The authors tell us that God still speaks prophetically to us through others, or to others through us.  The Book of Acts contains several examples.  But prophets in the modern day have a more limited role than the Old Testament prophets.  Since God speaks to all believers, prophecies and prophets are never the exclusive channel for truth and wisdom.  Instead they fill the gaps where we have not heard what God has said, or have discounted it as from some other source.  Prophetic-seeming words are always subordinate to the primacy of  Scripture as God's communication to His children.  The series discusses receiving and judging apparent prophecy and extends the concepts of the Listening for God series.
