"This is a newspaperman's version of the 'Big Story' of the Tennessee Walking Horse.  It is offered without apology for its newspaper style.  Every effort has been made to present facts as fully qualified facts, opinions as clearly expressed opinions.  Any deviation from this policy is unintentional, and corrections will be appreciated."  Ben A. Green, Shelbyville, TN, 1960

Ben Green's Biography of the Tennessee Walking Horse is the first history book written about the breed.  Green published it himself in 1960 and first merchandized the book pre-publication at the 1960 Tennessee Walking Horse Celebration show in Shelbyville, TN, to launch a 4-year (1961-1965) "Centennial Crusade for the Appreciation of the Tennessee Walking Horse." A second printing followed within the year, then the book went out of print.

This edition, authorized by Ben Green's sons, combines the complete original text of Ben Green's work with new illustrations, a biography of the author written by  his son Rev. Bruce Green, and footnotes, notes, and supplements by Allanna Lea Jackson.

The history and gait information in this book are essential reading for everyone interested in the Tennessee Walking Horse.
